RIDE DETAILS
Pre-Registration has ended.
Registration Starts at 8AM Saturday, August 15th, 2009.
Ride Begins at 11AM.
To enter the event for registration please come in Isabella Street from the 7th Street Bridge side. Registration tables will be set up at the corner of Isabella and Federal Streets.
After registration all bikes will be guided into position on the Clemente Bridge facing the city prior to beginning the ride. After the ride there will be plenty of available parking for those staying for the band and other events.
Representatives of the Zone 5 Pittsburgh Police as well as other Pittsburgh Police Zones joined forces with the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #1, the local Chapters of The Blue Knight Motorcycle Club, and the local Brigades of The War Dogs Motorcycle Club in order to honor slain Pittsburgh Police Officers’ Eric Kelly, Stephen Mayhle, and Paul Sciullo. The War Dogs Motorcycle Club has cancelled their annual Fallen Heroes Ride in order to put forth 100% of their efforts into this new Fallen Heroes Ride. The Ride Chairman, Pittsburgh Police Zone 5 Officer Mark Stephenson, and Chuck Hanlon, Vice President of FOP Lodge #1, have set up a bank account at Fidelity Bank in Carnegie to accept all sponsorship, donation, and registration money from this event. All registration/sponsorship/donation money from this web site will go directly into that account. All proceeds from this year’s event will go directly to the families of Officers’ Kelly, Mayhle, and Sciullo. Whenever a sponsor or rider registers for the run, we will keep a record of their address. We will be having a large award banquet several months after the Ride in order to honor the families of the Fallen Heroes. We will send out RSVP invitations with details about the award banquet and the costs for tickets. Those interested in attending the award banquet will have the option to send in their money for the event to secure their reservation. This will give an accurate count for the award banquet and allow us to secure a facility of sufficient size to host the event.
This will be an annual event. In subsequent years, the proceeds will go to the son or daughter of a Military Veteran, Police Officer, or Firefighter who was killed or wounded in the line of duty. We will continue to have the awards banquet to give the community an opportunity to honor our local heroes.
This years Fallen Heroes Motorcycle Ride and all subsequent year’s Fallen Heroes Motorcycle Rides will take the same route for the Ride itself. It will be a relatively short 15-20 mile Ride through the neighborhoods of the families of Officers’ Kelly, Mayhle, and Sciullo and then pass the Zone 5 Pittsburgh Police Station before returning to the starting point at the Clemente Bridge. This will keep the memory of those Officers fresh in the minds of our new Riders and our Community every year. They must never be forgotten.
We will be blocking off the Clemente Bridge (6th Street Bridge) and Federal Street up to General Robinson Street as well as Isabella Street over to 7th Street. From 7:30 AM until the after party concludes during the late afternoon. There are four bar/restaurants in that enclosed area that Riders will be able to patronize and up and coming country star, the Alli Gillis Band was generous enough to donate their time to play live music in the street from 1pm to 3pm. If you are not a Motorcyclist, you are welcome to attend the After Ride Party after the Riders return. You should plan on arriving around 1:00 and parking in one of the stadium lots. We would ask that you make a donation of your choosing in honor of the Officers as you enter the roped off area.
If you pre-register for the event, our volunteers will be able to check you in by simply checking your name against our list of pre-registers riders and you will be given your free ride patch for helping with your pre-registration. Those that forget to pre-register are still more than welcome to attend and they will be able to purchase a ride patch for a modest price.
For those individuals or Companies that care to sponsor the event, we have three levels of sponsorship. The Gold Sponsorship is for donations of $500.00 or greater. The Silver Sponsorship is for donations of $250.00 or greater. The Bronze Sponsorship is for donations of $100.00 or greater. We will have a large professionally done banner prominently displayed at the event with a list of all sponsors and the sponsors will also be prominently displayed on the programs for the award banquet.
We look forward to having a successful event and would appreciate all the support that we can get.
If you have any questions about the Ride, please call me at 412-498-9533 or Mick Morrow from the War Dogs Motorcycle Club at 412-780-3763.
We hope to see you there.
